Songs For Oprah was a project that I came up with one morning at 3AM, which would go on for 23 of the planned 52 weeks and be one of the most productive periods of my songwriting career to date. Below is the original blog post that I wrote right after that early morning brain burst….
So this is my first blog…wow, exciting!! I decided that I would make it about what is the newest project I’ve undertaken. The idea is called “Songs for Oprah” and it is a campaign of writing & recording a new song each week and taking that live performance, posting it on YouTube & then emailing Oprah with a link to the performance.
The idea with the email is to express to Oprah my desire to make a positive difference in the world around me. I would like to bring about awareness in people’s minds. Awareness of all kinds is good I feel…be it self-awareness, awareness about others around us or awareness of things around us, etc.
To me music is such a powerful art and even more so for me than being powerful, it is a way to challenge myself to create a concise message that marries well to the music and creates an atmosphere that can be felt. So I encourage anyone who reads this to respond, start your own ideas, live, love & be true to yourself.
